The theme was “80’s night” on Monday’s Dancing With the Stars, but before the dancers traveled back three decades, host Tyra Banks took the audience back to last week. Last Monday, there was some confusion about which two couples were up for elimination after Tyra called the wrong names.
During last Monday’s live show, Banks claimed that there was an error in the control and later said, “I was reading my cards, but my cards were wrong.” She also took to Twitter immediately after the show to reiterate that the blame lays with production.
Wowzers. Live TV. Wrong name on cards. So challenging to deal with moments like these. But we power through.

“We wanted to clear something up that happened last week while we were announcing the results,” Banks said at the top of Monday’s show. “What you did not see was that a technical issue behind the scenes caused the names on my cards to be listed incorrectly. But we carried on and the correct results were given, and that's what you did see, and that is what matters.”
At the time of the incident, many fans called out Banks for how she handled the situation. And her additional explanation on this week’s show was also not well received, as several fans thought she was throwing production under the bus and not taking responsibility.
Everybody: Tyra, was the glitch last week your fault?

Do you blame Tyra Banks for the mistake with the Bottom 2 last week?

@DancingABC @tyrabanks Tyra comes out dressed like a Jiffy Pop Popcorn:). She still doesn’t understand that the show is NOT about her until she threw everyone else under the bus but herself about last week. How pathetic!!

I wonder if Tyra realizes she’s not the star of #DWTS…? The runway entrance walk, the “banter”… even addressing AGAIN about the awkward mix-up last week. May not be her fault but it’s equally awkward to keep mentioning it. I miss Tom and Erin.

While the incident was rather minor, Banks’s desire to set the record straight appears to have made the situation more awkward. Now that the matter is settled, the audience can simply focus on the dancing going forward.
Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
