President Biden is expected to sign the American Rescue Plan on Friday.

Theater owners praised U.S. House of Representative lawmakers on Wednesday for approving President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion pandemic relief.

The president is expected to sign the American Rescue Plan, which has already been passed by the Senate, by Friday.

"The Plan extends critical unemployment benefits to our furloughed workers, and preserves and expands important tax relief programs that give a much needed lifeline to movie theater companies of all sizes affected by the pandemic," the National Association of Theatre Owners said in a statement.

NATO gave a specific shout-out to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s efforts to provide additional funding for the Shuttered Venue Operator Grants program and open the Paycheck Protection Program to theater operators in urgent need of capital assistance.

SAG-AFTRA was among numerous entertainment and Hollywood guilds praising the sweeping relief package

“The American Rescue Plan provides absolutely essential economic relief for workers in the American creative community who continue to face an uncertain path back to work due to the pandemic," read a joint statement signed by SAG and other guilds. "This legislation’s extension of CARES Act and Mixed Earner Unemployment Compensation benefits into early September, as well as critical tax forgiveness for the first $10,200 of unemployment insurance claimed in 2020, will provide much-needed certainty for creative community workers and their families."

The Writers Guild of America, East, also praised passage of the legislation by the House. The bill means that payroll protection program funds will now be available to support employees at digital-native news organizations. COBRA premiums will also be subsidized at 100 percent for those members who lose coverage from the PWGA health fund or employer-sponsored health plans.

The relief package includes substantial increases in funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Humanities, according to the WGA, East.

Local television stations are also set to benefit from the bill.

The package earmarks $1 billion that will go toward local TV and radio stations as part of a COVID-19 vaccine awareness campaign. The billion-dollar broadcast commitment earned praise from the National Association of Broadcasters.

“NAB applauds Congress for again prioritizing broadcasters as essential message carriers for vaccine awareness efforts," NAB CEO Gordon Smith said in a statement. "Local radio and television stations are the most trusted and most frequently accessed sources of local news and information and are therefore ideally suited for delivering critical vaccine information to the nation’s hardest-to-reach communities, including communities of color, rural communities and other underserved populations. NAB appreciates the current work of federal agencies to leverage broadcasters’ megaphone and encourages spending across additional stations and markets to maximize audience reach.”
