The move comes as the Disneyland Resort expands food and retail options into California Adventure.
Universal Studios is reopening after nearly a year of being shuttered for a weekend food and dining event.
The all-new, ticketed, Taste of Universal will start March 12 and run throughout the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood. The weekend event will take place from noon until 7 p.m.
Several hundred furloughed workers are expected to be recalled for Taste of Universal. Food offerings will include The Simpsons' Springfield, U.S.A., The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Minion Cafe and Hollywood and Dine. The tickets, which range from $44-$49 for adults and $25 for children 3-9, include five menu items (three items for children), according to Universal. Rides and shows remained closed.
The announcement comes as the Disneyland Resort expands dining and shopping options into California Adventure for A Touch of Disney. Downtown Disney has been open since last summer, same as Universal City Walk. But now visitors to both locations will be able to set foot in a portion of the parks once again.
Disneyland and Universal Studios, among the other major theme parks in Southern California, were forced to close last March due to the pandemic. Since the summer, they have all been in a bitter stalemate with Gov. Gavin Newsom in an effort to reopen.
Thus far, Newsom has not budged. However, he is now facing a recall effort and some believe that may soften his resolve.
