Saturday Night Live producer Lindsay Shookus is opening up on social media about something uniquely personal.

Shookus posted an inspiring image showing off her legs, revealing a port-wine stain vascular birthmark from her knee to her toes. She captioned the post with an empowering message about body positivity and endurance as part of the #MoreThanABirthmark campaign.

"I was born with a Port Wine Stain Vascular Birthmark from my knee to my toes," wrote Shookus. "While it's never changed and doesn’t ever hurt, I've learned ... that I'm very lucky for the placement and the lack of any health complications, like many people with vascular birthmarks can face."

She continued, "Some people think it’s weird or ugly. I definitely still notice people staring at it. But I once had someone tell me it was like I had a Jackson Pollock painting on my leg, so I like to think that makes my leg more valuable than most."

The Emmy award-winning producer and mother to daughter Madeline, 8, ended the post with an uplifting message about loving your own body.

"None of us are ever defined by one thing, and I'm surely more than my birthmark," she said.

The post was met with a slew of support: "God wanted to be sure legs this good didn’t go unnoticed so she gave you some added decoration on one!" one commenter wrote.

"It makes you beautifully unique," one added.

"Beautiful in every way!" wrote another.

According to the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation, which partnered with Shookus on this campaign, about three out of every 1,000 people are born with the pink-to-reddish mark, which gets its name due to it looking like someone spilled wine on the skin.

Shookus, who is co-founder of Women Work F**king Hard, a national women’s networking group, is one of several people who've shared photos of their birthmark as part of the campaign.
