Hollywood Casino at the Penn National Race Course had to abruptly close and ask guests to leave on Christmas Eve after “technical difficulties,” a security official told PennLive on Monday.
The casino normally is open 24 hours a day. But employees cleared out the casino about 7:15 p.m. Sunday night. It’s unclear how many gamblers were forced out unexpectedly. Some posted on social media that they were upset about being told to leave.
The company did not post any alerts or updates about the situation on their website or Facebook or other social media sites.
When PennLive called the security office on Monday, an official said the incident did not involve police, but stemmed from “technical difficulties,” at the casino at 777 Hollywood Boulevard in Grantville.
The casino didn’t open on Christmas morning because the technical difficulties still hadn’t “let up,” according to the security official. He said they were working with a bare-bones staff on the holiday and trying to get the issue resolved.
The official would not elaborate on what kind of technical issue forced the closure. Another employee got on the phone with PennLive shortly before 11 a.m. and said the casino would be opening soon. That employee declined to answer questions and hung up on the PennLive reporter.
