All five suspects pleaded not guilty on Thursday.
Multiple arrests have been made in the case of Lady Gaga's French bulldogs, which were stolen in a violent February altercation where her assistant was shot, according to Los Angeles police.
Five suspects were taken into custody: James Jackson, 18; Jaylin White, 19; Lafayette Whaley, 27; Harold White, 40; and Jennifer McBride, 50, according to police.
The Grammy-winning singer's dogs were stolen the evening of Feb. 24. Her assistant, Ryan Fischer, was walking the dogs when the shooting occurred around 9:40 p.m. in the 1500 block of North Sierra Bonita Avenue. Fischer survived but was hospitalized. The dogs were returned unharmed.
Jackson, Jaylin White and Whaley were allegedly involved in the robbery and shooting, police said. Detectives do not believe the suspects were targeting the victim because the dogs were Gaga's, but due to the great value of the breed, police said. Harold White and McBride are accused of being accessories after the initial crime, police said.
On Thursday, the case was presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Jackson, Jaylin White and Whaley were charged with one count each of attempted murder and robbery, police said. Harold White and McBride were charged with one count each of accessory to attempted murder.
All five pleaded not guilty, according to authorities. They are due back in court on May 11.
“This was a brazen street crime that left a man seriously wounded,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said in a statement. “We have alleged very serious charges in this case and have faith that justice will be appropriately served as this case unfolds in court.”
