Not to pat ourselves on the back too much, but you may remember back in February when everybody had but one thing on their minds: Nicole Kidman on the cover of V.F.’s 28th Annual Hollywood issue.

On the off chance that you do not recall the image—and the Miu Miu mini she wore—take a second look, this time direct from the To Die For star’s own Instagram page, and witness the 386,000 accompanying likes it drew.

After many months of online chatter about the ensemble, Kidman is ready to reflect back on this moment. Speaking with her old Australia director Baz Luhrmann, whom she calls “Bazzie,” for Vogue Australia, she revealed that she “begged” to wear that outfit.

The topic came up when Luhrmann, whose Elvis just debuted at the Cannes Film Festival, said that he’d recently spoken with designer Miuccia Prada, and described how much he loved that Kidman had “taken control of the process” concerning her “iconography.”

Kidman was eager to share what went down. “I showed up and they had another outfit for me and I was like, ‘No, no, I like this one! Am I allowed to wear that?’” she said.  She continued that stylist Katie Grand, “who’s just fantastic, was on Zoom, and Katie was like ‘You're willing to wear that?!’ And I said, ‘Wear it?! I’m begging you to wear it!’”

Luhrmann reported that, upon seeing the look, he exclaimed “Ah, she’s always got it! She can always turn it on!”

Kidman did admit that she second guessed herself afterwards, saying “I did walk away when I shot Vanity Fair thinking, ‘What was I thinking?! That was ridiculous! What were you doing, Nicole?!’ And then I went, ‘Eh, oh well!’”

The cover, photographed by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari indeed did cause a stir. Some outlets called it a “fashion fumble” while others called it “the ultimate vibe shift.” Clutched pearls on social media led some to call the reaction ageist

“I don’t see it as a personal achievement!” Kidman told Luhrmann as he gushed about how she remains in the driver’s seat of her image.

“I know you don’t, but I reckon what you don’t see also, is that you have broken the myth,” he responded. “And I mean that as someone who loves you, but you’ve broken the myth for everyone, but particularly for women in our industry, that in any way you have to back away from wearing that Miu Miu piece or starring in your own show, or just having an even more evolved creative life than you had even when we got going! And not enough people say that, although they probably recognize it.”
