7 Famous Hollywood Duos Who Don’t Work Together Anymore - Screen Rant

ureturet.blogspot.com

With the upcoming film Clerks 3 releasing in September, fans will be seeing their favorite duo, Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith (Jay and Silent Bob), back on the big screen together. This duo has been the source of funny since the '90s, collaborating on and off over the years, and although they aren't the first Hollywood duos to take the film industry by storm, they are among the few that continue to work together after years of partnership.

Some the best acting or acting/directing duos Hollywood has ever seen have given fans some of the best films in cinema history. From Martin Scorsese and Robert De Nero to John Hughes and Molly Ringwald, these duos have worked together on multiple hits. With the successes of these films, these duos became common fixtures in the film industry, however, not all of these collaborations stood the test of time and many iconic pairs eventually stopped working together for one reason or another.

Gene Wilder & Richard Pryor

Each with a legacy of their own, Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor individually made many iconic films. But although funny on their own, the two legends are even funnier together. They are most notably known for their films Stir Crazy and See No Evil, Hear No Evil.

Both Pryor and Wilder began collaborating in 1976 on the film, Silver Streak. This collaboration led the two to star in a total of four films together, cementing their legacy as a duo worth watching. However, their collaboration came to an end in 1991 with their last film being Another You. Pryor passed away in 2005 and Wilder in 2016, with no hope of the two collaborating again.

Tom Hanks & Meg RyanTom Hanks and Meg Ryan in You've Got Mail

Starring in some of the best romance comedies together, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan brought their unique and undeniable chemistry together in a total of four films, a few of which are considered Meg Ryan's best rom-coms. The two actors began their cinematic relationship and decades-long friendship in 1990, with their first film, Joe Versus The Volcano.

After this 1990 gem, the two went on to make cinematic magic with Sleepless In Seattle and You've Got Mail. But after the success of these two films, the two weren't seen together on film again until 2017, in the film, Ithaca. Ryan and Hanks have not starred in anything together since, seemingly bringing an end to their unique on-screen chemistry.

Tim Burton & Johnny Depp

Working together for the first time in the '90s on the cult classic Edward Scissorhands, Johnny Depp and Tim Burton would go on to cement their director-actor relationship in history as one of the greatest. In the role of Edward Scissorhands, considered to be one of Tim Burton's most iconic characters, Johnny Depp showcased his versatile acting ability that lead to him starring in a total of eight Burton films.

The two have gone on to work beside each other with hit films like Sleepy Hollow, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and many more. However, their collaborative relationship hasn't been prominent lately, with Burton and Depp's last film project together being Dark Shadows in 2012. That said, rumors abound about Depp's potential secret role in Burton's new Addams Family-centered spin-off series, Wednesday, so fans are waiting with bated breath.

Will Ferrell & John C. Reilly

A comedic duo that can do no wrong when they collaborate together, Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly have worked together on a total of six films together and have a comedic chemistry that is unmatched. Beginning their collaboration in 2004 with the film The Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, the two went on to star in many hit comedy films together.

Ranging from Step Brothers to Talladega Nights: The Ricky Bobby Story, John C. Reilly has played a huge part in some of Will Ferrell's most re-watchable films. The two actors continued their collaborative relationship until 2018 with Holmes & Watson, but the two haven't starred in a film together since.

James Franco & Seth Rogen

James Franco and Seth Rogen became another comedic duo that no fan knew they needed. The comedic chemistry between the two was unbelievable in Pineapple Express, a film that was seemingly just two friends having fun. However, this isn't the first time that the two have worked together, as they both starred in the 1999 show, Freaks and Geeks.

After the series ended in 2000, the two went on to star in Knocked Up together. From there, Franco and Rogen have starred in 10 productions together, with Pineapple Express being considered Rogen and Franco's best. The two have not worked together since 2019 and there isn't likely to be any new projects involving the two, with Rogen distancing himself from Franco after a string of sexual misconduct allegations.

Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore

Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore began working together in 1998 on the hit film, The Wedding Singer. They provided chemistry like no other in the film, setting the stage for future projects to come. After this film, Barrymore and Sandler brought their chemistry back to the big screen in 2004 with 50 First Dates.

Collectively, the two actors have starred in three films together with their last, Blended, in 2014. In the film, the two played two single parents who purchase one-half of the same family vacation and must share the same suite with their children and participate as a family. The duo has not worked together on a film since, making it eight years since they have been on the big screen together.

John Hughes & Molly Ringwald

Premiering in some of John Hughes best films from the '80s, Molly Ringwald has starred in three of John Hughes' biggest films and is best known for her roles in Sixteen Candles, Pretty In Pink, and The Breakfast Club.

Beginning their director-actor collaboration in 1984 with Sixteen Candles, Ringwald was considered Hughes' "muse," with the duo going on to continue their success throughout the '80s. Although these films were huge successes upon their release, the collaborative relationship between John Hughes and Molly Ringwald ended in 1986 with the popular romance classic Pretty In Pink, and Ringwald feeling that she felt she had to break the collaboration in order to "grow up as an actor."
