Horror fans holding out hope that the coronavirus pandemic would ease up in time for the haunting season are out of luck in 2020.
Universal Studios Hollywood announced Friday that its annual Halloween Horror Nights has officially been canceled.
“Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort have made the difficult decision to not hold Halloween Horror Nights events this year,” an emailed statement from the theme park read. “Universal Studios Hollywood continues to face ongoing business restrictions and uncertainty around its opening timeframe. Universal Orlando Resort will be focusing exclusively on operating its theme parks for daytime guests, using the enhanced health and safety procedures already in place. “
“We know this decision will disappoint our fans and guests. We are disappointed, too. But we look forward to creating an amazing event in 2021.”
Each year, Halloween Horror Nights brings various franchises and other horror properties to life via a series of unique walk-thru attractions. In the past, the theme park has created experiences based on “Halloween,” “Ghostbusters,” “Saw,” “Creepshow,” “Us,” “The Walking Dead,” “American Horror Story,” “Stranger Things,” mashed up several horror films in “The Horrors of Blumhouse” and created numerous original concept mazes based on classic Universal Monsters.
